Atlas 5 rocket launches from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — Atlas 5 launched early Thursday morning from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

The mission is to put into orbit a military surveillance satellite.

It usually takes about 80 seconds from the time the rocket leaves the launch pad to where residents are able to see it from our Southwest Florida sky.

This is the fifth Atlas 5 flight of the year and, overall, the 95th launch of an Atlas 5 rocket.

Today is also a big day for rocket launches! SpaceX has a launch scheduled for 7:08 from Cape Canaveral, so we have two launches from Florida today.

There’s also a third launch from west Texas!

Blue Origin’s suborbital rocket-capsule NS-22 is set to take off around 9:30 this morning.
