Cape Coral city council campaign signs removed during birthday celebrations

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A birthday event turned political at a restaurant in Cape Coral.

Patty Cummings is running for city council representing District 4.

Cummings said friends gathered at Two Meatballs in the Kitchen on Saturday to celebrate a few birthdays. She said an opponent, Jennifer Nelson’s campaign sign, was staked on the restaurant’s property before she arrived.

“We support this business because they are good people. They try to stay neutral. They don’t want to get involved and that’s the way it should be. Especially during election season,” said Cummings.

Cummings said Nelson’s sign was removed by the owner, but not before a photo of it was posted to Nelson’s election Facebook page.

“If you’d read it she’s thanking [the restaurant] for allowing them to put the sign up. She should have asked permission from the owner,” said Cummings.

Cummings said the incident should have never happened.

We reached out to Nelson, but were told she had no comment on the incident.
