FORT MYERS, Fla. – The not-so-slick moves from a reckless driver on Daniels Parkway nearly led to a potentially catastrophic crash.

Amelia Flores was on her way to work last Thursday when she looked in her rearview mirror to find a dark-colored Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck following her.

“That is the worst encounter I’ve ever had on the road,” Flores said.

While driving along, her front and rear facing dash cameras recorded the truck tailgating her, nearly touching her rear bumper.

“He starts, you know, like revving up so he can get closer to me,” she said.

Then the man behind the wheel of the truck passed her, pulled in front of her and slammed on the brakes.

“Oh my goodness,” said Jesser Lighthall as he watched the dash cam footage.

There are close calls and then there’s this. Flores crossed over the median and into oncoming traffic on Daniels Parkway near Morgan La Fee Lane. She avoided crashing head-on into four vehicles and managed to get back into the right lane.

“I swerved into the only open space,” she said. “I lost control, went over that curb and into oncoming traffic where two or three cars swerve out of the way to avoid me.”

“That was closer than close,” Lighthall added.

If Flores was a couple inches or even seconds off, the outcome could’ve been a lot different.

“I feel really lucky,” she said.

She managed to drive away without a scratch on her or her car. When she pulled up to the next light, she saw the man that nearly caused her to crash.

“I said ‘What do you think you’re doing?! You drove me into oncoming traffic’ and he just laughed.”

She called the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, but there’s usually nothing they can do about traffic offenses unless they witness it.
