City council discusses allowing golf carts on Fort Myers streets

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Golf carts could soon be allowed on certain Fort Myers streets.

City council will discuss the idea on Tuesday. Golf carts have the potential to be driven on city streets with 35 mph speed limits.

Council’s agenda item also includes that golf cart drivers would be required to carry a valid driver’s license.

Residents said golf carts should be allowed on streets with lower speeds.

One family told us they use theirs to save money on gas during school drop-offs.

Some drivers said they are concerned the carts may congest traffic and create potential crashes.

Count on NBC2 for updates as the city makes its decision.
