Collier deputies investigating shooting at Shadowlawn Drive & Francis Avenue

EAST NAPLES, Fla. — Collier County Deputies responded to a call for a shooting along Shadowlawn Drive and Francis Avenue around 10:30 Saturday morning.

At the same time, Sam VanHouten also got a call.

“I just know that I was getting a call from somebody that said there was a shooting by the girls house, this is a recovery house,” he said.

VanHouten is the Program Director for New Way Residency.

“We offer beds to men and women who try to get acclimated back into society,” he said. “Members of our community come from treatment centers.”

Initially he was worried that it was one of the women inside the recovery home who had been shot. But that was not the case.

“A man that was involved was with another gentleman that got shot and they were questioning him at the time,” he said. “One of the members of our community once she saw he was shot, she ran over to help because that’s what we do.”

That is what VanHouten understood from the women in the house.

“The car came driving by and popped a couple shots, rounds, caps whatever you want to call it and then sped off,” he said.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed someone was shot and their injuries were non life threatening. There is no active threat to the community at this time.

They have not specified if deputies are still searching for a suspect.

“It happened on the sidewalk, not really on our property but it was really, scary, it’s real,” VanHouten said. “It really seems like the times are changing.”

He just wants the women in the recovery house to be safe.

Count on NBC 2 to provide updates as more information is released.
