DESOTO COUNTY, Fla. — A convicted felon is behind bars after a DeSoto County traffic stop turned into a foot chase and drugs found.

DeSoto County deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Rainbow Avenue Tuesday morning. The driver, Vernon Davis, took off on foot, and attempted to outrun deputies but failed.

He is facing charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, resisting officers, driving while license suspended (habitual offender), possession of a controlled substance, synthetic narcotics possession with intent to sell, manufacture, or deliver, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug equipment.

Sheriff Potter reminds anyone “visiting” DeSoto County that he doesn’t want your unlawful deadly drugs meant to victimize the DeSoto County Community in our county. You can take your “vacations” elsewhere.
