CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Big change is right around the corner for the South Cape.
On Wednesday, August 24, at 10 a.m. developers will break ground on The Cove at 47th.
The $103 million mixed-used project will bring more than 300 luxury apartments, 19,000 square feet of retail and office space and a nearly 600 space parking garage.
It will be at the land between Southeast 47th Terrace and Cape Coral Parkway.
“We’re always looking for more entertainment,” said Janet Kraft, a Cape Coral resident.
But of course, residents do have some concerns about the big project going up in a small space.
“When season comes, traffic gets pretty bad. So I could see where that could be a concern to some people,” one resident said.
Cape Coral Councilman Tom Hayden said that is a valid concern. But he’s looking at the economic advantages the build will bring and how The Cove at 47th will create a ripple effect for other businesses.
“It could change the environment down there in a big way. They’re going to see what’s happening in other places and they want to keep up and be included in this great growth,” said Hayden.
According to the developer, the first units should be ready in 16 months. The hope is for the entire project to be done in by end of Summer 2024.
