Drunk Cape Coral man accused of starting fight with police officer

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A Cape Coral City Utilities employee was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly tried to start a fight with a Cape Coral police officer while drunk.

Documents show that Christopher Otero was an employee of the City’s Utilities Department when he confronted an officer Saturday afternoon.

Around 4:30 p.m., the officer was parked outside the Pelican Sports Complex off of SW 2nd Court. Otero’s home is located across the street.

The Cape Coral police officer reported that Otero stormed across the street and approached the officer. The officer first believed it was a friendly exchange. But alleged Otero quickly became aggressive, upset with CCPD for its handling of a past “Suspicious Vehicle” call.

The officer noted that Otero’s breath smelled of alcohol and his eyes were glassy.

The report stated that the officer asked the suspect to head home. He took a few steps before turning around in the grass. CCPD said the suspect announced, “I own this joint.”

The officer asked a family member to get him into the house. Cape Coral PD said Otero aggressively shoved the victim’s arms down.

The officer called for additional units. Otero was arrested for “Battery on a person 65 or older.”

NBC2 asked the City of Cape Coral if Otero’s employment has been suspended or even terminated. A spokesperson did not provide an immediate response.
