Fire severely damages The Island Cow restaurant on Sanibel


SANIBEL, Fla. — The iconic Island Cow restaurant suffered severe damage in a fire Saturday night.

According to Sanibel Fire Rescue, at around 11 p.m. firefighters responded to the scene at Island Cow where the fire grew rapidly inside the building. Firefighters extinguished the fire from the outside.

The Island Cow announced on Facebook that the fire started in the restaurant’s kitchen after they had closed for the evening. They are temporarily closed at this time.

The Island Cow has been a beloved destination for food on Sanibel for decades.

Sanibel firefighters are still on scene at this time. No further information has been released at this time.
