Former Lee County Commissioner John Manning passes away


LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Former Lee County Commissioner John Manning died earlier on Thursday, July 28.

The Lee County Board of County Commissioners announced the news along with a tribute video they shared for his 2020 retirement from the Board.

District 4 Commissioner Brian Hamman paid tribute to his colleague and friend on his Facebook page.

Manning served his first term from 1988-2000 and proceeded to serve out a second term from 2010-2020. He was also noted as an instrumental figure in the creation of the Conservation 20/20 program, which is Lee County’s land acquisition and management program.

He was 72 years old.
