Fort Lauderdale man found guilty for sexual battery of minor

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A Fort Lauderdale man was found guilty for sexual battery of a child younger than 12 years old.

Jonathan Colon, 30, was caught in 2020 after the victim told her mother about the sexual abuse and recorded a conversation she had with him on Snapchat.

The child called him on her own and Colon admitted he sexually abused her, according to the state attorney’s office.

The evidence was submitted to the Cape Coral Police Department (CCPD) and an investigation began. Investigators determined Colon had been committing sexual crimes against the girl over a period of time in Cape Coral.

Colon was found guilty of familial or custodial sexual battery, lewd or lascivious conduct and sexual battery of a child less than 12 years of age.

According to the state attorney’s office, his sentencing is scheduled for September 30.
