The City of Fort Myers hit 97 degrees on Monday afternoon setting a new record high for August 22.

The temperature reading eclipses the previous record high of 96 degrees that was observed on today’s date in 2017.

Monday’s high makes for the third day in a row of record-setting heat in the City of Palms.

On Saturday, Fort Myers hit 98 degrees tying the record high for August 20th originally recorded in 1987. On Sunday, the city warmed to 97 degrees, the same record-high noted on August 21, 2014.

Consistent, daily temperature records have been kept by the National Weather Service in Fort Myers since 1902 at Page Field Airport.

The average high for late August in the city ranges between 91 and 92 degrees.
