FSW Volleyball Set to Host Premiere Tournament

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Southwestern volleyball team has high expectations for this season and the road to achieving those goals begins this weekend as the Bucs will be hosting the Battle at the Beach with several of the top teams in the country.

“We are waiting for this moment since the first day of practice. We just cannot wait to play the first game,” sophomore defensive specialist Arianna Rossi said.

The Bucs had a busy preseason with several competitive scrimmages but this weekend the games start to count for real.

So not only is it the beginning of a new season, but the Bucs get to start things off with a bang.

“That is why we want to do what we do you know that is why we like to host this tournament because I think at the end of the day to be the best you have to beat the best,” FSW volleyball head coach Thais Baziquetto-Allen said.

They chose to take that challenge literally beginning Friday in the 2022 Battle at the Beach.

“We get the opportunity to play the number one team in the country and if you ask them they know that we are playing number 1, number 4 team, number nine so they know what we are trying to do,” Coach Baziquetto-Allen said.

In total you are going to have 8 of the top 16 teams in the county, the 2-time defending national champions and a chance for the Bucs to gauge where they are in the crowd.

“It’s a great opportunity to start our season because we can compare our team to these amazing levels,” Rossi said.

Building a mindset against this stuff competition that can benefit them in the long run.

“These games are going to get us closer to the mental state that we have to have to be ready for nationals and states,” Sophomore setter Maiana Coelho said.

Starting down the road to what they hope will be the teams first national championship.

“First brick right so if you are going to building a road you have to start from somewhere so we are hoping that this is that start to the road that will lead us there,” Coach Baziquetto-Allen said.

The tournament begins Friday with the Bucs first scheduled to play at 12:30. You can checkout a full program with all of the game listed on the FSW Volleyball website.
