Fugitive Friday: August 12

Every Friday, Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers shares information on four fugitives authorities need help finding.

Anyone with information on these four is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477.

1.      Crystal Estrella – accused of selling meth, crack, and fentanyl on the streets of North Fort Myers

2.      Juan Carlos Ramirez – a Bonita felon accused of attacking a co-worker over his attire

3.      Ramon Hernandez Silva – on the run following a violent attack on a female

4.      Joseph Velez – wanted on eight new felony warrants for burglary and theft

Crystal Estrella

We’re starting off our list this week with a convicted felon accused of peddling large amounts of meth, crack, and fentanyl on the streets of North Fort Myers. Crystal Estrella is on the lam after her latest run-in with the law, where she sold the highly addictive drugs to undercover officers in a deal she brokered over her Facebook account. Estrella spent about a week in jail for the sale and delivery of drugs, however, was released on the condition that she’d abide by certain rules while she awaited her next court hearing. However, earlier this week, she violated those terms, which triggered a new warrant for her arrest. To date, she’s got 26 bookings under her belt, which started with her first felony arrest at age 14 for burglary. Since then, she’s been jailed for grand theft, aggravated battery, fleeing and eluding officers at high speeds, fraud, and the possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. She’s also spent time in lock-up in Okaloosa County and in the Florida Department of Corrections, where she served two and a half years for drug trafficking. Estrella just celebrated her 33rd birthday on Monday, and with your help, she can close out her week in the familiar surroundings of the Lee County Jail.

 Juan Carlos Ramirez

Next up is a guy who went on an all-out rampage after a coworker showed up for his lawn maintenance job wearing sandals. A brand new warrant for the arrest of Juan Carlos Ramirez was issued this week for failure to appear on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The victim said when he arrived for work wearing inappropriate foot gear, Ramirez went into a rage and struck him with a lawn mower. He then started launching punches to the man’s face, stomach, and back, ripped his shirt, and damaged his phone. He was jailed for the incident and released until his next court hearing, which was supposed to be on Monday. But instead of showing up and telling his side of the story, Ramirez chose to be a no-show. This wasn’t the 50-year-old’s first fit of rage, with six previous bookings for battery, aggravated assault, and DUI. He is 5’5”, 150 pounds, and was last known to be living in Bonita. And upon his arrest, Ramirez will be held without bond.

Ramon Hernandez Silva

Also on the run this week is a Fort Myers fugitive with a history of violent behavior. Ramon Hernandez Silva is currently wanted on charges of aggravated assault on a deputy, grand theft auto, property damage, burglary with assault or battery, and fleeing and eluding officers. His latest legal woes started with a verbal altercation with a female that quickly got out of hand. The victim said Silva struck her in the head with a blunt object, which caused her to lose consciousness. He then commandeered a car that wasn’t his and tried to leave the neighborhood. When deputies arrived in marked units, Silva started barreling toward them in an aggressive manner before unsuccessfully trying to flee. He ended up in cuffs for a multitude of charges and spent a few weeks behind bars before his conditional release. But earlier this week, a judge rescinded that ruling and decided that the best place for this hot-tempered guy is a jail cell. 32-year-old Silva has three previous arrests for several counts of battery and contempt. He is 5’3”, 145 pounds, and was last known to be living in central Fort Myers.

 Joseph Velez

And last on this week’s list is the newest addition to Crime Stopper’s 10 Most Wanted list. Juan Sanchez Rivera is on the run after failing to show up in court following an arrest for sexual battery on a minor. The victim said Rivera, who was an authority figure in her life, molested her over the course of several years before the accusations finally came to light. The illegal actions started off as inappropriate touching over the young girl’s clothes and escalated to sexual battery. She said that at first, she was too young to really know that what was happening was wrong, but when she started learning about sexual abuse in school, she knew that Rivera was doing horrible things to her. Rivera was arrested earlier this year and spent two months in lock-up before being released pending his next court hearing, on which he decided to bail on. He’s been on the run for about a month and a half now, which has triggered a new warrant for his arrest. Rivera is 5’9”, 135 pounds, and upon his arrest, he will be held without bond in the Lee County Jail.
