Gang member arrested for aggressively abusing child in Collier County

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — An investigation led to the arrest of a documented criminal gang member who is accused of abusing a child in Collier County.

Collier County deputies received photos of the child’s injuries from a woman related to the child.

The man, identified as 22-year-old Andre Navas, was arrested on child abuse charges Wednesday.

Text messages between Navas and the woman show dialogue back and forth about the four horizontal purple marks on the child’s face, according to the police report.

Navas said the child “busted his (expletive). Hit his face on his bed :/ pretty hard,” and “kept on playin horse smh.”

The woman stated to him that the marks are not consistent with marks from a bed.

“He said he fell on the toys lol,” Navas texted back.

She told him that the marks don’t look right to her, especially since the child falls on his toys all the time, and is just trying to understand what happened since the child’s face has bruises and is swollen.

The woman asked Navas three times for pictures of the bed that Navas alleges the child fell onto but never sent them.

A medical examination was performed at the Children’s Advocacy Center. There were positive findings on the child for physical abuse, the police report states.

Due to the violent nature of the offense, as well as Navas being a documented criminal gang member, a judge will set his bond.
