Man arrested in connection to Immokalee homicide

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — An arrest has been made in connection to the death of a man in Immokalee on Sunday morning.

At around 2 a.m. Collier County deputies were called to 609 Willie Mae Harper Drive in response to a suspicious incident.

When deputies arrived, through the window they saw the man identified as 32-year-old Chadrick Austile get off the couch and move something on the floor.

Austile opened the door to deputies. From the door, deputies saw the body of the victim wrapped in a bed sheet on the floor.

Austile had blood on his hands and confessed to killing the victim, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office. He told deputies that the victim had reached for his genitals and that’s when he shot the man with his brother’s gun.

Following Monday court proceedings, Austile will be utilizing a self-defense / “stand-your-ground” law defense.

The weapon was later found in a backpack located in the backyard of the residence.

Austile is in custody. He faces a charge of second-degree murder.

We later identified the victim as Joaquin Gutierrez, of Immokalee – via interaction with the family.

This is an ongoing story. For further updates, count on NBC2 to provide new information as it is released.
