Man seriously injured after crashing into cement light pole and traffic sign in Cape Coral

CAPE CORAL, Fla. — A man is seriously injured after crashing into a cement light pole and traffic sign Monday evening in Cape Coral.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Coronado Parkway and Lucerne Parkway.

According to Cape Coral police, the man crashed, lost a tire, then kept driving, where he then crashed for a second time.

The truck then rolled over several times before coming to rest on its side in the front yard of a private home, witnesses said.

Power lines fell on the pickup truck after the crash.

Fire crews immediately responded and had to assess if the lines were energized prior to starting the extrication of the man who was trapped and unconscious inside, according to witnesses.

Firefighters removed the truck’s windshield and removed the man, who was then brought to a nearby hospital with injuries.

Richard Apfel, who lives across the street, said crashes like this happened at least 12 times in the three years he’s lived in the area.

“All of us down the street have had our mailboxes taken out by people coming down, so it’s an unfortunately pretty regular occurrence,” said Apfel.

Cape Coral Police didn’t say how exactly the crash happened, but alcohol may be involved.
