Man shot to death after attending Fort Myers quinceanera party

FORT MYERS, Fla. – One man died after a robbery at a Quinceanera party in Fort Myers over the weekend went horribly wrong.

Now Fort Myers Police are asking for the public’s help finding whoever shot Francisco Javier Bustamante. He was found with multiple gunshot wounds early Sunday morning in the area of Dora Street.

Right before 4 am Sunday, FMPD says their Shotspotter technology detected multiple gunshots. When Officers arrived on the scene, they found Bustamante riddled with bullets. He was rushed to Gulf Coast Medical Center, where he later died.

On Thursday, one of Bustamante’s coworkers at Noel Painting spoke to NBC-2 over the phone, explaining that Bustamante, known to his friends as “Javier”, had gone to the party that night.

“I didn’t go to the party, but they passed the box around, kind of like a wedding, you know?” his coworker said, “Somebody had came to rob, we think, we dont know for sure. They kind of waiting til the party was over.”

As the party ended, the victim returned to retrieve his sweatshirt.

“He was getting ready to leave, Javier (Francisco) was in the car, and he’s like, hey I forgot my sweatshirt, and he ran into the backyard to get his sweatshirt. Somebody was there and had a ski mask on, and gloves, and he went around the corner, which must have startled him. He put his hands up and the guy shot him.”

Witnesses say they heard two bursts of gunshots.

“Shot him seven times, I think, with a high-powered rifle or machine gun or something.” His coworker added.

Fort Myers Police are asking for the public’s help identifying the shooting. If you have further information on this investigation, don’t hesitate to get in touch with SWFL Crime Stoppers or the Fort Myers Police Department at 239-321-7700.
