Man trying to help woman gets carjacked in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A man was trying to help a woman at his Fort Myers hotel only to get carjacked.

“I’m glad it didn’t happen to me,” that is the reaction Brendan Boggs had hearing about a carjacking.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said the man was staying at the Candlewood Suites in Fort Myers while in town for work.

On Monday, around 5 p.m., a woman approached him at the hotel.

He later told deputies she needed a ride to a friend’s house after getting in a fight with her boyfriend.

She had suitcases and other belongings with her.

The hotel told us this woman was asked to leave their property that same day for trespassing.

Deputies said the man agreed to take the woman to meet her friends, they got in his work vehicle and left. On the way, they picked up two of her friends.

During the drive, he told deputies he misplaced his phone and got out of the vehicle to look for it.

That is when two other people followed him and started to hit him in the back of his head, then his face. In the end, they took his car keys.

The woman and her two friends then got back inside.

The victim told deputies he tried to stop them by kicking at the driver’s side window but was unsuccessful.

The woman and her two friends took off in the vehicle

When deputies arrived, they saw the man hiding in these woods.

“If it happened to me, I’d be devastated, honestly,” Boggs said. “I love my car personally, and that’s a big loss.”

The three have not been found, and neither has the vehicle.
