CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Newly released dash cam and body camera videos from the Cape Coral Police Department revealed more details about 39-year-old Hector Negron’s July 15th arrest.

The father was booked to the Lee County jail on DUI and Child Neglect charges, accused of overdosing on drugs behind the wheel of a minivan. His two children in the backseats jumped out of the vehicle out of fear for their safety. Neither suffered injuries.

Since then, those felony charges have been reduced to traffic offenses and a misdemeanor for Drug Paraphernalia Possession.

The body camera video from the first officer who arrived on scene at the Nelson Road and Diplomat Parkway shows witnesses surrounding the minivan. The officer opens the driver’s side door to find Negron sitting behind the wheel, snoring with a Q-tip in his hand. For over a minute the officer shakes Negron to wake him up. The officer asked a bystander for help pulling Negron out.

The woman then told the officer the two kids are in a safe place nearby. EMS arrived and loaded Negron onto a stretcher to transport him to the hospital. In the video, EMS shows the officer a syringe they found in Negron’s pocket. The officer placed it into an evidence bag.

A woman runs up to officers moments later, sharing she’s Negron’s ex-wife. She said the minivan is hers and confessed Negron does not have a valid driver’s license.

She shared they were just at their daughter’s softball game, when she gave Negron permission to cool off in the van with their other two kids. She told officers she was calling Negron off-the-hook because he did not have permission to drive it.
