PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – Authorities have arrested a Punta Gorda man after threatening another person with a knife following a basketball game.

Adler Telfort approached the victim at his home on Monday, asking for the $20 he said he had won the previous day for winning a game. Instead, the victim told Telfort to come to Harold Park, so he could ask the individual he actually played for the money.

On Tuesday, Telfort went to the park, but when his previous on-court opponent wasn’t there, he took a knife and held it at the victim, demanding $20.

Holding the knife at close range, Telfort threatened the victim by saying he would kill him and his family. Finally, the victim would punch Telfort in the face before Telfort stepped aside and called authorities.

When Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, they found Telfort actively with the knife in his hand.

Telfort was arrested and faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently in the Charlotte County Jail.
