UPDATE: The Sarasota Police Department has lifted the evacuation at Sarasota City Hall.

Investigators determined the suspicious envelope was not a threat, according to the Sarasota Police Department.

Police also said 2nd Street will be reopened.

ORIGINAL STORY: SARASOTA, Fla. — Sarasota City Hall was evacuated due to a “suspicious envelope” that a city employee received at the building.

According to the Sarasota Police Department, its Explosive Materials Unit (EMU) responded to the scene and 2nd St. has also been closed between Orange Ave. and Lemon Ave.

Authorities advised people to avoid the area.
