A new political ad taking aim at democratic candidate for governor Charlie Crist is raising a lot of eyebrows.

Many of you have asked if the ad is factual and who is behind it.

The Republican Party of Florida is behind the ad. They’re spending millions statewide.

In the Fort Myers-Naples market they’re spending more than $217,000.

The ad begins with saying Charlie Crist thinks Joe Biden is the best president of his lifetime. The ad sources the USA Today for that claim. Just the past week, Crist asked CNN what other president could do what Biden has accomplished. Crist called Biden phenomenal.

However, the ad continues claiming Crist teamed up with Biden to hire 87,000 new IRS agents to audit the middle class.

Crist did support the Inflation Reduction Act; however, it does not call for auditing the middle class.

It calls for hiring 87,000 new workers by 2031. According to the U.S. Treasury Department, most would not be new agents but rather a wide range of positions. The IRS said more than half of its employees are eligible for retirement.

The Department of Treasury said in a letter to the senate, “These resources are absolutely not about increasing audit scrutiny on small businesses or middle-income Americans.”

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen stressed in a separate letter that, “Small business or households earning $400,000 per year or less will not see an increase in the chances that they are audited.”

The IRS said those earning a half a million or less a year have well below a 1% chance of ever being audited.

The ad continues by saying Crist supported Biden’s agenda to defund the police.

The Fraternal Order of Police which represents officers disagrees. In a March news release, they said that Biden delivered on his commitment to increase funding to state and local law enforcement.

After reviewing all of the facts, NBC2 rates this 30 second ad as “Mostly False”
