Swampee named ECHL Mascot of the Year

ESTERO, Fla. – The Florida Everblades continue to rack up accolades after the over-sized gator Swampee was just revealed to be the 2022 ECHL Mascot of the Year.

16 mascots from the East Coast Hockey League took part in the tournament.

In the finals, Swampee would go head-to-head with Buddy, a puffin from the Newfoundland Growlers. However, with an impressive 59-percent of the votes going Swampee’s way, it was gator-power that pushed The Everblades to another impressive victory this year.

“People truly come out to games because of Swampee himself,” the Everblades wrote in his official entry. “He even receives fan mail and gifts throughout the year, which shows the love and appreciation the Everblades fanbase has for him.”

The victory comes after The Florida Everblades won their second Kelly Cup this past June. The Blades would make quick work of the Toledo Walleyes, winning the series four game to one.

The summer of celebrations continued for the team as they revealed a new NHL partner as well. The Everblades announced that beginning next season, they will be affiliated with the reigning President’s Cup Champion Florida Panthers.
