NORTH FORT MYERS, FLa. – The Lee County Sheriff’s office arrested two 18-year-olds after they assaulted a North Fort Myers man in a wheelchair on Saturday. It happened outside of Farmer Jacks Market on Laurel Lane.

A video of the attack was posted to social media. Deputies say the man who threw the trash can at the 55-year-old is Jermiah Perez, and the one punching him is Armando Cruz.

Hundreds of people ended up sharing the video commenting about the man apparently named Frank. They say he couldn’t defend himself even if he wanted to.

One witness, who did not want to give their name out in fear, said they tried getting the teens to stop.

“I was in my company vehicle so I couldn’t get out,” he says. “All we could do is yell and scream.”

Sheriff Carmine Marceno says behavior like this is unacceptable.

“We have an obligation to protect those that cannot protect themselves,” says Sheriff Marceno. “It’s disturbing to watch and I’m thankful that we closed it out very quickly.”

Deputies say witnesses sent them the viral video and that really helped identify the teens involved quickly.

“There’s no I in team, when they give us info, send us video, we are not going to wait one second,” says Sheriff Marceno.

The 17-year-old girl behind the phone recording is charged with a misdemeanor.

“Anybody who puts their hands on another person belongs locked away,” says a witness.

A few Farmer Jacks Market customers tell NBC2, they haven’t seen Frank since the attack and they’re concerned.
