Venomous snake caught near Lee County home

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — A large Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake was spotted in a Lee County neighborhood.

South District deputies were called to the scene. Deputy Jim VanPelt, a licensed FWC large constrictor, used his training and proper equipment to catch the snake.

The rattler was safely relocated to a desolated area.

Eastern Diamondback rattlesnakes are known to be the largest rattlesnake species in the United States.

“If you encounter a venomous animal, do not approach it and contact a licensed professional for removal,” said the Lee County Sheriff’s Office post.
